Sean O'Hanlon's 94th-minute header salvaged a point from a pulsating Bucks derby, but MK Dons' promotion party remains firmly on hold.

O'Hanlon's third goal in four games extended the Dons' lead at the top of League 2, but Stockport's victory at Peterborough means automatic promotion remains unconfirmed.

The big defender's header from a Dean Lewington corner came after Scott McGleish had twice put Wycombe in front in an enthralling game.

In-form Aaron Wilbraham had cancelled out McGleish's first half finish with a controversial equaliser on 72, only for McGleish to regain the lead with a show-stopping volley a minute later.

But after laying siege to the Wanderers goal in the closing stages, the Dons were finally rewarded with O'Hanlon, playing with a broken nose suffered at Lincoln a week ago, produced leveller at the death.

Few would have anticipated the Dons cutting it fine based on their early play, as Paul Ince's side forced Wycombe onto the back foot almost immediately.

Mark Wright went down in the area under the last-ditch challenge of Tommy Doherty only to see his claims for a penalty waved away by referee Clive Oliver - Doherty's first contribution in a brilliantly destructive first-half performance.

Then Dons skipper Keith Andrews saw an effort blocked by Wanderers 'keeper Frank Fielding on 12 minutes after good work from Lloyd Dyer down the Dons left.

Dyer was his usual menacing self as he again caused Wycombe problems out wide, beating Sergio Torres in a race to the ball before crossing for Kevin Gallen, whose header was blocked by Chairboys captain Mike Williamson.

Aaron Wilbraham continued his excellent scoring run at stadiummk.

It was excellent stuff from the home side, playing with far more purpose than they did against either Lincoln or Wrexham in the last week and looking far more likely to make a breakthrough.

But Wycombe rallied and with every boo for the returning Leon Knight back on his old stamping ground, the more the little strikers determination to be a nuisance grew. Indeed, had Andrews not intervened to clear a Russell Martin cross on 26 minutes, the former Chelsea striker might have volleyed his new employers into the lead.

Stefan Oakes saw a vicious free-kick pushed round the post by Dons 'keeper Willy Gueret and, from the resulting corner, Wycombe took the lead.

Typically, Knight played his part - making a nuisance of himself in front of Gueret as Martin's corner came in from the left.

Williamson headed it back from beyond the far post and McGleish stretched to nod home from six yards on 37 minutes.

Ince's men upped the tempo after half-time and began to exert some sustained pressure on the Wycombe goal.

Lewington and Andrews both fired just over from long range as outright chances remained difficult to come by while at the other end, the visitors just looked to break when they could.

As the pressure mounted without reward, frustrations started to grown in the home camp. But Wilbraham relieved them with 18 minutes to play.

Lewington found himself in space down the left having ventured forward yet again and as his low ball into the box sought out the arriving Wilbraham, Wycombe arms went up for offside.

Kevin Gallen; MK Dons 2 Wycombe Wanderers 2

Kevin Gallen puts the Dons on the front foot.

The flag stayed down and Wilbraham continued his red-hot run at stadiummk with his sixth goal in his last four games here.

Relief swept through the home supporters, with Stockport leading the Dons needed to turn things around, but they were silenced within a minute.

O'Hanlon's headed clearance from a long ball forward was hardly a poor one and the danger looked minimal as it fell to McGleish 30 yards from goal.

Even the striker himself looked surprised with what he produced - a first time volley as good as any you'll ever see that dipped over Gueret and into the top corner.

Wycombe could have sealed it had substitute Delroy Facey been able to beat Gueret having been put through by Gary Holt with six minutes to play.

And O'Hanlon made them pay the price, putting a dent in their play-off hopes in the process.

It wasn't quite the promotion party many of the 12,737 inside stadiummk might have been hoping for, but the wild celebrations that greeted O'Hanlon's equaliser showed what it meant to them.

A win against Hereford on Tuesday here would see the job done all the same.
