EDDIE SALUTES FANTASTIC DONS
Assistant manager Eddie Newton hailed a "fantastic performance" from the Dons at the Galpharm Stadium as Huddersfield were swept aside.
Jude Stirling, Peter Leven and Sam Baldock were all on target for Roberto Di Matteo's team as they recorded a third win in a row against the highly-fancied Terriers.
And Eddie feels the League 1 new boys are starting to reap the rewards of believing in their own ability.
He said: "It was a fantastic performance, we competed well in both halves and when the game settled down we got to play a little bit of the football we know we can play.
"The confidence is starting to come, they're starting to believe in the tactics and believe in themselves.
"We keep emphasising to the boys that they're good enough to compete in this league, good enough to play their football and it's now starting to show.
"There's been a lot of work on the training ground, it's been different for them but they've got used to it, and the tactical preparation for the game is all coming together nicely."
The result was made all the more impressive when the opposition are considered. Huddersfield have invested heavily in their squad this summer and were many people's picks to be in the promotion shake-up.
But Eddie thought the team coped well with the inevitable pressure they came under.
He said: "We knew we'd be under a lot of pressure and that they play a direct game. We knew we'd have to compete and win the first ball, which our back four were fantastic with, and our midfield were picking up the seconds.
"We knew if we could pick up a few of those balls we could hit them on the counter attack and fortunately we did. The second goal was really something to behold - you don't often see a five-on-one break so we were really pleased with that.
"I'm not surprised at how well we played, I've seen it in training. But what we didn't want was for it to be left on the training field and not come out on the main stage.
"We've got a very good squad that plays together and if we can add a couple more before the close of the transfer window, we're confident we can have a good go at this league."
More reaction from Eddie and goalscorer Peter Leven coming soon on Dons World.
